REALITY OF DEATH Every soul shall have taste of death The Holy Quran

Almighty Lord  Allah (swt) says in the Qur'aan

"Blessed be He in Whose hands is Dominion: and He over all things hath Power; He Who created Death and Life the may try which of you is best in deed: and he is the Exalted in Might, Oft-Forgiving;....  (Surah Al-Mulkhat -67:1-2)

Every one of us has to die. In this regard Allah mentioned in the Qur'aan  that everyone has to die including the Prophet himself:

Allah says in Holy Quran

"Truly thou wilt die (one day), and truly they (too) will die (one day)."
       Surah Al Zumar (39:30)

Allah also said  that every soul shall taste the death:

"Every soul shall have taste of death; In the end to us shall ye be brought back
    .(Surah Al-'Ankabut The Spider 29:57)

No one knows when and where one will  die. No one even knows how someone  is to die. In this respect Allah says in the Qur'an

"Nor does anyone know what it is that he will earn on the morrow: Nor does anyone know in what land he is to die. Verily with God is full knowledge and He is acquainted (with all things)" (Surah Luqman:-31:34)

It is understood that Allah alone is the One Who gives life, and it is He Who takes off life. In this regard, Allah says in Qur'aan

:  "It is He Who gives Life and Death; and when He decides upon an affair, He says to it, "Be, " "and it is. " (Surah Al- Mu'min -The Believer(40:68)

While life and death are from Allah, we have to remember that they are to take place with the permission of Allah alone. Each one's life and death are decided by Allah. It is stated in the Qur'aan

"Nor can a soul die except by God as leave, the term being fixed as by writing. Many do desire a reward in this life, we shall give it to him, and if any do desire a reward In the hereafter, we shall give it to him. And swiftly shall we reward those that (serve us with) gratitude. "(Surah Al-'Imran -The family of Imraan 3:145)

Allah (swt) makes us to die daily while sleeping. He makes most of us to wake up from our temporary death so we can  praise Him and to worship Him. The Qur'aan states

"It is God that takes the souls (of men) at death; and those that die not (He takes) during their sleep: those on whom He has passed the decree of death, He keeps back (from returning to t life) but the rest He sends (to their bodies) for a term appointed. Verily in this are Signs for those who reflect. (Surah Al-Zumar - The Crowds 39:42)

Allah has assigned an angel responsible for taking our souls out of our body.  The angel's name in the Qur'aan is ( Malakul- Maut) Angel of Death. Allah informs us in Holy Quran

"Say: "The Angel of Death put in charge of you, will (duly) take your souls: Then shall ye be brought back to your Lord. "( Surah Al-Sajdah- Prostration:32:11)

The life of each and every human being  on this earth is a short one, but the deeds and actions of a true believer are eternal if he knows how to channel them in the right directions. As far as the life span of a human being is concerned, our beloved Prophet (pbuh) said:

Narrated by Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) saying that the Prophet (pbuh) said: "The life span of my followers are between sixty and seventy. Very few of them do exceeds this age. " Reported by: Tirmizi

Life in this world is a temporary one. The real( Permanent)  life is the one of  Life Hereafter. In this respect the Qur'aan states

"What is the life of this world but amusement and play? But verily the Home in the Hereafter, that is life indeed, it they but knew." (Surah Al-Ankabut -The Spider:  (29:64)

We are here on a trial basis, we are here on a temporary basis, and we are here for a passage to Paradise or Hell . The real life of an eternal rest is that of the hereafter. In this respect Allah says in

"O my People! This life of the present is nothing but (temporary) convenience. It is the Hereafter that is the Home that will last. "(Surah Al Mu'min -The Believer:  (40 39)

Without coming to this world, and without dying we can't go to paradise. We can't dream to go to the final destination  without tasting death. So we have to die whether we like it or not. Death is truth (Haqq). . It is a passage to Paradise. Therefore, it is important that we remember the death and prepare  for it..

Our beloved Prophet (pbuh) reminded us that we have to remember death, as it is the one that defeats all types of pleasures.

Narrated by Ibn Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: "Increase your remembrance of the One which defeats pleasures"  While we are to remember death, we have to prepare ourselves to meet it - before it meets us. In this regard our beloved Prophet (pbuh) said:  ''Do for your life as if you are to live eternally, and do for the hereafter as if you are to die tomorrow. ''

Remember that death is a process to reaching the final destination  for both the believers and the non-believer.  We hope and pray that each and everyone will go to Paradise.  In other to achieve this ultimate success we must find out what Our Creator wants from us. and we must strive to seek the truth.  In order one must desire the ultimate success there are two important things are necessary.  First one must desire the real truth and second one must strive to seek the truth

Love for Allah (SWT), Love for God is the foundation of Islamic belief

The Noble Qur'an says: "The believers are stronger in their love for Allah." (Surah Al-Baqara, 2:165)

According to Islamic teaching, the minimum expectation from believers is that God should have the first place in their heart, in the sense that no other love may override one's love for God; God should be the highest and foremost object of love. The Noble Qur'an says:

Say: If your fathers and your sons and your brethren and your mates and your kinsfolk and property which you have acquired, and the slackness of trade which you fear and dwellings which you like, are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger and striving in His way, then wait till Allah brings about His command: and Allah does not guide the transgressing people. (Surah Al-Tawba, 9:24)

This verse clearly indicates that one's love for God has to be superior to one's love for everything else that one may come to love in one's life. This superiority shows itself when the love for God and for His religion comes in conflict with one's love for one's personal belongings. In this case, a believer should be able to sacrifice his personal favourite things for the sake of God. For example, if God asks us to give our lives to protect innocent lives or our territorial integrity or the like, we should not let our love for this world or any other distraction i.e. family, wealth, power, etc. prevent us from striving in His way. And nothing should come into conflict with our love for God. The Noble Qur'an says:

Allah has not made for any man two hearts in his (one) body. (Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:4)

Imam Ali (as) would always spend time with his children. Once he was sitting in his house with his young children. Sayyida Zainab (sa) then asked, "Dear, father, do you love me?" Imam Ali (as) said, "Yes, of course, my children are like a part of my heart". On hearing this, she said, "You also love Allah (SWT). How can two loves be in one heart of a true believer, the love of Allah (SWT) and that of children?"

Imam Ali (as) smiled and replied, "Love Allah (SWT) and for the sake of His love, you love His creatures; children and fellow beings too. I love you for the sake of Allah (SWT)."

Hence love for God is the foundation of Islamic belief, the foundation on which man is to establish the principles of his faith (Iman). Hence with one heart one cannot choose two beloveds.

Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (as) said once, "The heart is the sanctuary of God, therefore do not settle therein anything but God."

Hadith Qudsi says, "Neither [the vastness of] My earth, nor [that of] My heaven can contain Me. Indeed it is the heart of the man of faith which can contain Me."

Urdu Couplet says: Kaba Kitna Khush Kismat Hai, Ke Yeh Allah (SWT) Ka Ghar Hai, Lekin Is Mein Allah Nahi Rehta, Momin Kaba Se Bhi Ziada Khush Kismat Hai, Jis Ke Dil Mein Allah (SWT) Rehta Hai.

The history of Islam is full of memories of those who embodied a sincere and overwhelming love for God and His religion. One of those who full-heatedly devoted himself to Islam was Bilal al-Habashi, a black slave. The pagans of Quraysh in Makkah subjected him to torture asking him to mention names of their idols express his belief in them and disbelieve in Islam. They tormented him under the burning Sun by laying him on scorching sand and putting heavy rocks on his chest. Abu Bakr, a rich companion (Sahabi) of Prophet Muhammad (saw), was passing by when he heard the cry of Bilal. He went close and advised him to hide his belief, but Bilal was not prepared to do so; since "love was ever rebellious becomes deadly."

Another example love for Islam is Imam Hussayn ibn Ali (sa), who said: "Oh God, I have left the world in Your love. Am ready to make my children orphans in Your love. My heart could not divert towards anybody but You. Even if You cut my body into pieces in Your love

English Translation of Al-Quran

[9].Surah At-Taubah [The Repentance]

Ayat 108. Never stand you therein. Verily, the mosque whose foundation was laid from the first day on piety is more worthy that you stand therein (to pray). In it are men who love to clean and to purify themselves. And Allah loves those who make themselves clean and pure (i.e. who clean their private parts with dust [i.e. to be considered as soap) and water from urine and stools, after answering the call of nature].

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) said, "When a Muslim, or a believer, washes his face (in the course of Wudu'), every sin which he committed with his eyes, will be washed away from his face with water, or with the last drop of water; when he washes his hands, every sin which is committed by his hands will be effaced from his hands with the water, or with the last drop of water; and when he washes his feet, every sin his feet committed will be washed away with the water, or with the last drop of water; until he finally emerges cleansed of all his sins.'' [Muslim Hadith # 0475].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah At-Taubah Ayat 108 "And Allah loves those who make themselves clean and pure". This Hadith has the same meaning mentioned in the preceding Ahadith. That is to say, such minor sins are washed off by Wudu'. In other words, Wudu' is a means of purification of the body as well as the soul.

English Translation of Al-Quran

[9].Surah At-Taubah [The Repentance]

Ayat 117. Allah has forgiven the Prophet ( [SAWW](PBUH), the Muhajirun (Muslim emigrants who left their homes and came to Al-Madinah) and the Ansar (Muslims of Al-Madinah) who followed him (Muhammad  [SAWW](PBUH) in the time of distress (Tabuk expedition, etc.), after the hearts of a party of them had nearly deviated (from the Right Path), but He accepted their repentance. Certainly, He is unto them full of Kindness, Most Merciful.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Aishah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet  [SAWW](PBUH) said, "Allah is Forbearer and He loves forbearance, and rewards for forbearance while He does not reward severity, and does not give for any thing besides it (forbearance).'' [Muslim Hadith # 6273]

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah At-Taubah Ayat 117. "He is unto them full of Kindness, Most Merciful". Mildness is the opposite of harshness. Allah enjoins softness and dislikes stiffness in human rations. Allah assures of reward for gentle behaviour in society, not for unkindness or anything like that. However, inflexibility is preferred to flexibility when there arises a question of religious matters and the limits set by Allah.

It is not permissible to congratulate the kuffaar on their festivals in any way whatsoever

It is not permissible to congratulate the kuffaar on their festivals in any way whatsoever
What is the ruling on eating the food (rice, meat, chicken or cake) that is given to us by a Christian friend that he made for his birthday or for Christmas or the Christian New Year? What is your opinion on congratulating him by saying, “Insha Allaah you will continue to do well this year” so as to avoid saying Kull ‘aam wa antum bi khayr (approx. “season’s greetings”) or “Happy New Year” etc?.

Praise be to Allaah.

It is not
permissible for a Muslim to eat things that the Jews and Christians make on
their festivals, or what they give him as a gift on their festivals, because
that is cooperating with them and joining in with them in this evil,

It is not
permissible for him to congratulate them on their festivals in any way
whatsoever, because that implies approval of their festival and not
denouncing them, and helping them to manifest their symbols and propagate
their innovation, and sharing their happiness during their festivals, which
are innovated festivals that are connected to false beliefs that are not approved of in Islam

Is it permissible to intercede for his classmate who cheated in the exam and was banned from that course

Is it permissible to intercede for his classmate who cheated in the exam and was banned from that course?
We have a classmate in our year who is not Muslim, and he cheated on one of the exams, and the teacher punished him by banning him from that subject. Is it permissible for us to help him by asking the teacher to be lenient with him?.

Praise be to Allaah.

Firstly:

Cheating in exams is haraam, like any other kind of
cheating.

The Standing Committee for Issuing Fatwas was asked: What is
the ruling on students cheating in tests at school?

They replied: The hadeeth “The one who cheats us is not one
of us” is saheeh, and it is general in meaning; it includes cheating in
buying and selling, in giving advice, in contracts and covenants, in matters
of trust, and in exams in schools and colleges and the like, whether that
involves plagiarism, copying from another student, whispering answers to
them or writing answers and passing them to them. End quote from Fataawa
al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah (12/200).

Secondly:

It is prescribed to punish and discipline the one who cheats
as the university sees fit, such as banning him from completing the exam or
banning him from that subject, so as to close the door to this haraam action
which leads to weakness, backwardness, promotion of those who do not deserve
to be promoted and appointment of people to positions for which they are not
qualified. The least that the student who cheats in his tests deserves is to
be be failed and banned from the subject in which he cheated. How can he be
given a grade that he does not deserve, and how can he advance ahead of
other students, when he deserves to fail?

Based on this, you should not intercede with the teacher for
this student. Perhaps he will benefit from this punishment and will not do
such a thing again, and perhaps others will benefit too. But if this student
did not cheat at all, rather he merely tried to cheat, and that is not his
usual habit, and he has shown signs of regret and has resolved not to do
such a thing again in the future, then there is nothing wrong with you
interceding with the teacher so that the punishment may be waived.

Thirdly:

The fact that this student is not a Muslim does not mean that
you cannot intercede for him in principle. It is proven that Umm Haani’ bint
Abi Taalib put a kaafir man under her protection on the day of the Conquest
of Makkah, so that he would not be killed, and the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to her: “We grant protection to the
one to whom you granted protection, O Umm Haani’.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari
(3171) and Muslim (336).

This was intercession on her part for that kaafir man, so
that he would not be killed, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon him) approved of it. Similarly, ‘Uthmaan ibn ‘Affaan granted
protection to a man who had apostatized, then he came repenting and turning
back to Islam, and the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon
him) granted him protection. Narrated by Abu Dawood (4385), classed as
saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

This is something that demonstrates the tolerance of Islam,
and the keenness of its followers to seek what is good and beneficial for
all people, which will motivate them to think about this true religion and
encourage them to enter it. This is the goal that leads the Muslim to treat
kaafirs well and uphold ties with them, so that Allaah might open their
hearts to Islam and save them from the darkness of kufr and shirk.

It is clear that this kindness does not mean that one loves
them and takes them as close friends, because that is not permissible in the
case of a kaafir, as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians
as Awliyaa’ (friends, protectors, helpers), they are but Awliyaa’ of each
other. And if any amongst you takes them (as Awliyaa’), then surely, he is
one of them. Verily, Allaah guides not those people who are the Zaalimoon
(polytheists and wrongdoers and unjust)”

[al-Maa’idah 5:51]

“You (O Muhammad) will not find any people who believe in
Allaah and the Last Day, making friendship with those who oppose Allaah and
His Messenger (Muhammad), even though they were their fathers or their sons
or their brothers or their kindred (people). For such He has written Faith
in their hearts, and strengthened them with Rooh (proofs, light and true
guidance) from Himself. And He will admit them to Gardens (Paradise) under
which rivers flow, to dwell therein (forever). Allaah is pleased with them,
and they with Him. They are the party of Allaah. Verily, it is the party of
Allaah that will be the successful”

[al-Mujaadilah 58:22]

And Allaah knows best.

It is not permissible to eat foods that are prepared by the kuffaar for their festivals

It is not permissible to eat foods that are prepared by the kuffaar for their festivals
Is it permissible for a Muslim to eat the foods that the people of the Book or the mushrikoon prepare for their festivals or accept such foods if they are given on the occasion of their festivals?.

It is not permissible for
the Muslim to eat foods that the Jews, Christians and mushrikoon make for

things that are given to them on the occasion of their festivals, because
that implies honouring them and cooperating with them in manifesting their

They were offered food at Christmas – what should they do

 Ahkaam Ahl al-Dhimmah
(3/1245-1250).

Thirdly:

It is not permissible for the Muslim to take religious
matters lightly. He must practise his religion openly. They practise their
religion openly and display its symbols during these festivals; we should
also openly reject their gifts and refuse to join them and help them in
that. This is one of the teachings of our religion.

We ask Allaah to help us to understand the rulings of our
religion and to help us to act upon it and adhere to it.

Offering gifts to some women on Christmas

Offering gifts to some women on Christmas
There is a common practice here in the west, that at christmas time some non-muslims, young and old, get together and gather all of their names, put them in a hat and have all of the names mixed up, then each person choses the name of another person who they will give a gift to on christmas day.

This is called chris kringle.

This basic idea was taken on by a group of sisters last year and now they want to take this practise on this year also for the end of eid.  All that the practice consists of, is each sister randomly assigned another sister for whom she must buy a gift of a set value ($20 )

Some of the sisters invloved beleive that this practsie is tashabu of the kufar, is this correct?

Praise
be to Allaah.

What some sisters have said to you, that this action
is something that is not permitted, is correct, because it involves
imitating the kuffaar in two ways.

Firstly it involves celebrating this festival, which
is something that is haraam according to sharee’ah, including offering
gifts on this festival.

Secondly, it involves imitating the kaafirs in these
customs on the day of their celebration of that innovated festival.

In Islam we have only Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adhaa. Any
other festivals that have been innovated besides these two amount to
nothing, especially if they are the religious festivals of other religions
or groups that are beyond the pale of Islam.

Please see Question no. 947

This matter opens the door to bid’ah, and it comes under the general meaning of the words of the Prophet

(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), “Whoever innovates anything in this matter of ours that is not part of it will have it rejected.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, al-Sulh 2499; Muslim, 1718). And Allaah knows best.

Ruling on celebrating non-Muslim holidays and congratulating them

Ruling on celebrating non-Muslim holidays and congratulating them
Can a muslim celebrate a non muslim holiday like Thanksgiving?

Praise be to Allaah.

Greeting the kuffaar on Christmas and other religious holidays of theirs is haraam, by
consensus, as Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allaah have mercy on him, said in Ahkaam Ahl al-Dhimmah:
"Congratulating the kuffaar on the rituals that belong only to them is haraam by consensus, as
is congratulating them on their festivals and fasts by saying ‘A happy festival to you’ or ‘May
you enjoy your festival,’ and so on. If the one who says this has been saved from kufr, it is still
forbidden. It is like congratulating someone for prostrating to the cross, or even worse than
that. It is as great a sin as congratulating someone for drinking wine, or murdering someone, or
having illicit sexual relations, and so on. Many of those who have no respect for their religion
fall into this error; they do not realize the offensiveness of their actions. Whoever congratulates
a person for his disobedience or bid’ah or kufr exposes himself to the wrath and anger of
Allaah."

Congratulating the kuffaar on their religious festivals is haraam to the extent described by Ibn
al-Qayyim because it implies that one accepts or approves of their rituals of kufr, even if one
would not accept those things for oneself. But the Muslim should not aceept the rituals of kufr
or congratulate anyone else for them, because Allaah does not accept any of that at all, as He
says (interpretation of the meaning):

"If you disbelieve, then verily, Allaah is not in need of you, He likes not disbelief for His
slaves. And if you are grateful (by being believers), He is pleased therewith for you. . ."

[al-Zumar 39:7]

". . . This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and
have chosen for you Islaam as your religion . . ."

[al-Maa’idah 5:3]

So congratulating them is forbidden, whether they are one’s colleagues at work or otherwise.

If they greet us on the occasion of their festivals, we should not respond, because these are not
our festivals, and because they are not festivals which are acceptable to Allaah. These festivals
are innovations in their religions, and even those which may have been prescribed formerly
have been abrogated by the religion of Islaam, with which Allaah sent Muhammad

(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to the whole of mankind. Allaah says
(interpretation of the meaning):

"Whoever seeks a religion other than Islaam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the
Hereafter he will be one of the losers." [Aal ‘Imraan 3:85]

It is haraam for a Muslim to accept invitations on such occasions, because this is worse than
congratulating them as it implies taking part in their celebrations.

Similarly, Muslims are forbidden to imitate the kuffaar by having parties on such occasions, or
exchanging gifts, or giving out sweets or food, or taking time off work, etc., because the
Prophet
(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever imitates a people
is one of them." Shaykh al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyah said in his book Iqtidaa’ al-siraat
al-mustaqeem mukhaalifat ashaab al-jaheem: "Imitating them in some of their festivals implies
that one is pleased with their false beliefs and practices, and gives them the hope that they may
have the opportunity to humiliate and mislead the weak."

Whoever does anything of this sort is a sinner, whether he does it out of politeness or to be
friendly, or because he is too shy to refuse, or for whatever other reason, because this is
hypocrisy in Islaam, and because it makes the kuffaar feel proud of their religion.

Allaah is the One Whom we ask to make the Muslims feel proud of their religion, to help them
adhere steadfastly to it, and to make them victorious over their enemies, for He is the Strong
and Omnipotent.
