What are you waiting for?!!

Repentance gates are opened

Why Repentance?

All praise is due to Allah the Forgiver of sin, the Acceptor of repentance, the Severe in punishment. It is He Who opens the gates for those who seek His forgiveness, and it is He Who facilitates the reasons for those who seek repentance. Peace be upon the messenger of Allah (whom Allah sent as a mercy to the worlds) and his family and company.

We all are sinful:

We all are sinful … We remember Allah at times and forget Him at others; we watch our deeds at times and be inattentive at others.

We all have sins and always do mistakes. Neither I nor you are infallibles. The prophet, peace be upon him, said: “all the children of Adam are sinning and the best sinners are those who repent.” (Narrated by At-Tirmizy and approved by Al-Albany).

However … What does Repentance mean?

Repentance means to refrain (inwardly and outwardly) from what Allah hates, and to do (inwardly and outwardly) what Allah likes. Repentance is the essence of the legislations of Islam and the facts of faith.

Repentance is the guidance that protects from despair and despondency. It is the effluent fountain of every goodness and happiness in this life and in the hereafter.

Repentance is the essence of religion, source of life and the reason of happiness. It is the beginning, the middle and the end _ it is the beginning and the end of the human life.

Repentance means to refrain from the sin because of fearing Allah, feeling the nastiness of the sin, feeling guilty for doing it, and determining not to do it again as possible as you can. Repentance is a feel of guilt over what had occurred, seeking Allah’s satisfaction in the present and future deeds, and refraining from doing the sin.

Why should we repent?

Some person may ask:

Why should I abandon the sin that gives me pleasure?

Why should I stop watching films and hearing music while they give me rest?

Why should I refrain from the obscene phone calls that I desire?

Why should I stop looking at women while this gives me pleasure?

Why should I abide by prayers and fasting while I do not like to abide?

Why… Why … Why…

Is not it good for the person to do whatever gives him/her pleasure and rest? What gives me pleasure is what you call it “sin”. So, why should I repent?

O dear brother, before answering your question, I want you to know that I wanted nothing but your pleasure, hoped nothing but your rest, and meant nothing but your goodness in this life and in the hereafter.

Now, I will answer your question. You should repent because;

1- Repentance is obedience to your Lord’s order; It is He Who ordered it by saying: “O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance.” [At-Tahrim 66:8], and Allah’s order must be obeyed.

Transliteration: Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Tūbū 'Ilaá Allāhi Tawbatan Naşūĥāan

2- It is a reason for your success in this life and in the hereafter; Allah almighty says: “And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.” [An-Nur 24:31]

Transliteration: Wa Tūbū 'Ilá Allāhi Jamī`āan 'Ayyuhā Al-Mu'uminūna La`allakum Tufliĥūna

Therefore, the heart does not feel goodness, success, pleasure or satisfaction except when it worships its Lord and repents to Him.

3- It is a reason of gaining Allah’s love; Allah almighty says: “Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves.” [Al-Baqarah 2:222]

Transliteration: 'Inna Allāha Yuĥibbu At-Tawwābīna Wa Yuĥibbu Al-Mutaţahhirīna

Is there pleasure better than the pleasure that one feels when s/he knows that Allah loves him/her when s/he repents to Him?!

4- It is a reason for entering paradise and not entering the hellfire; Allah almighty says: “But there came after them successors who neglected prayer and pursued desires; so they are going to meet evil – (59) Except those who repent, believe and do righteousness; for those will enter Paradise and will not be wronged at all.” [Maryam 19:59-60]

Transliteration: Fakhalafa Min Ba`dihim Khalfun 'Ađā`ū Aş-Şalāata Wa Attaba`ū Ash-Shahawāti Fasawfa Yalqawna Ghayyāan (59) 'Illā Man Tāba Wa 'Āmana Wa `Amila Şāliĥāan Fa'ūlā'ika Yadkhulūna Al-Jannata Wa Lā Yužlamūna Shay'āan

Is there anything deserves to be sought except paradise?!

5- It is a reason for having blessings and increase in strength, wealth and children; Allah almighty says: “And Allah invites to the Home of Peace and guides whom He wills to a straight path.” [Yunus 10:25]

Transliteration: Wa Allāhu Yad`ū 'Ilá Dāri As-Salāmi Wa Yahdī Man Yashā'u 'Ilá Şirāţin Mustaqīmin

And He says: “And said, ‘Ask forgiveness of your Lord’. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver. (10) He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers (11) And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers” [Nuh 71:10-12]

Transliteration: Faqultu Astaghfirū Rabbakum 'Innahu Kāna Ghaffārāan (10) Yursili As-Samā'a `Alaykum Midrārāan (11) Wa Yumdidkum Bi'amwālin Wa Banīna Wa Yaj`al Lakum Jannātin Wa Yaj`al Lakum 'Anhārāan

6- It is a reason for expiating the sins and changing them into good deeds; Allah almighty says: “O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove from you your misdeeds and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow” [At-Tahrim: 8]

Transliteration: Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Tūbū 'Ilaá Allāhi Tawbatan Naşūĥāan `Asaá Rabbukum 'An Yukaffira `Ankum Sayyi'ātikum Wa Yudkhilakum Jannātin Tajrī Min Taĥtihā Al-'Anhāru

And He almighty says: “Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.” [Al-Furqan 25:70]

Transliteration: 'Illā Man Tāba Wa 'Āmana Wa `Amila `Amalāan Şāliĥāan Fa'ūlā'ika Yubaddilu Allāhu Sayyi'ātihim Ĥasanātin Wa Kāna Allāhu Ghafūrāan Raĥīmāan

Muslim brothers and sisters,

Do not these virtues (along with others) deserve to be sought by repentance?!

Why do we deprive ourselves from their pleasure?! … Why do we insult ourselves and deprive them from gaining Allah’s satisfaction by disobeying Him?! … We should do what brings to us these results and gains.

Suppression of Lusts

The suppressor of lusts and the healer of the living is fear and hope.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Praise be to Allah, the unique in His pride, the Lord of lands and heavens and whatever lies between them, and peace be upon His Messenger, his household and blessed companions, their successors till the Day of Judgment.

Dear brother: how does your heart feel when you recall the glory of God and the greatness of His pride, His overwhelming sovereignty, might and glory? Where do your heart and mind dwell when you recite the holy Qur'an and contemplate the threat of Allah which intimidates even the hearts of the righteous?

“Indeed, the vengeance of your Lord is severe.” [Buruj 85:12]

Transliteration: 'Inna Baţsha Rabbika Lashadīdun

“And thus is the seizure of your Lord when He seizes the cities while they are committing wrong. Indeed, His seizure is painful and severe.” [Hud 11:102]

Transliteration: Wa Kadhalika 'Akhdhu Rabbika 'Idhā 'Akhadha Al-Qurá Wa Hiya Žālimatun 'Inna 'Akhdhahu 'Alīmun Shadīdun

“And Allah warns you of Himself, and to Allah is the [final] destination.” [Al-'Imran 3:28]

Transliteration: Wa Yuĥadhdhirukumu Allāhu Nafsahu Wa 'Ilá Allāhi Al-Maşīru

My Muslim brother: the fear of God has filled the hearts of the knowing and righteous; they abandoned pleasures and lust. They embarked good deeds, spending the days remembering God, and the nights in tahajjud (optional prayer) and sighs of hope.

“: And cause not corruption upon the earth after its reformation. And invoke Him in fear and aspiration. Indeed, the mercy of Allah is near to the doers of good.” [Al-‘Araf 7:56]

Transliteration: Wa Lā Tufsidū Fī Al-'Arđi Ba`da 'Işlāĥihā Wa Ad`ūhu Khawfāan Wa Ţama`āan 'Inna Raĥmata Allāhi Qarībun Mina Al-Muĥsinīna

Imam al-Qurtubi said: ''man is ordered to be close to God, fearing Him, hoping for His forgiveness''.

Muslim brother: fearing Allah is a high ranked status that is not obtained but by the truthful, the faithful and those who stand by His door wishing to service Him. The secret of this fear is to be closer to Allah. Allah has described angles saying: “They fear their Lord above them, and they do what they are commanded.” [An-Nahl 16:50]

Transliteration: Yakhāfūna Rabbahum Min Fawqihim Wa Yaf`alūna Mā Yu'umarūna

And His Messengers saying: “[Allah praises] those who convey the messages of Allah and fear Him and do not fear anyone but Allah.” [Al-Ahzab 33:39]

Transliteration: Al-Ladhīna Yuballighūna Risālāti Allāhi Wa Yakhshawnahu Wa Lā Yakhshawna 'Aĥadāan 'Illā Allāha

Imam Ibn Hajar explains the secret that angles and Messengers are the most fearful creatures of Allah: ''they are closer to Allah; hence they are more fearful of Him. They are asked to perform what others do not do; so they respect the status they enjoy. Their duty is to thank Allah for their status which doubles whenever their fear doubles".

And you brother! Have your share of fearing Allah, feel it in your heart; if your faith is true and your belief is great.

Imam Ibn Hajar explains "The straight forward slave fears the punishment of Allah or that his rank would be diminished, as He says: “And know that Allah intervenes between a man and his heart” [Al-Anfal 8:24]

Transliteration: Yaĥūlu Bayna Al-Mar'i Wa Qalbihi

The un-straight slave fears the consequences of his bad deeds, that would help along with regrets and quitting bad deeds. Fear emerges from awareness and knowledge of the enormity and ugliness of sins, of believing in punishment and denial of repentance, or that he is not to be forgiven by God, he is scared of his guilt, asking God to be one of the forgiven"

Conditions of the fearful

'Aishah (the wife of the Prophet), may Allah be pleased with her, said: I asked Allah’s Messenger, peace be upon him, about this Verse: “And they who give what they give while their hearts are fearful...” [Al Mu’minin 23:60]

Transliteration: Wa Al-Ladhīna Yu'utūna Mā 'Ātaw Wa Qulūbuhum Wa Jilatun

She added: "Are these who drink alcoholic drinks and steal?" Allah's Messenger, peace be upon him, replied: "No! O the daughter of As-Siddiq, but they are those who fast, pray, and practice charity and they are afraid that (their good) deeds may not be accepted from them: they are those who hasten in good deeds". [Narrated by al-Tirmizi,
and declared authentic by Al-Albani]

O brother!
Fill your heart with the fear of Allah; He will secure you from what you fear, paradise will be yours by the end of the Day of Judgment.

Do not be heedless of His greatness, the holder of heaven and earth and whatever lies in them and in-between; owner and owned. Al-Hassan al-Basry said: "whoever fears Him is a believer and whoever feels safe against His wrath is a hypocrite".

Al-Fadheel ibn Ayyadh advised Haroun al-Rashid: "O Prince of the Faithful! Empty your heart so that fear and grief inhabit it to prevent you from committing sins, and put you at a distance from the torment of hell fire".

Zo-Alnoon said: ''as long as they are afraid, people are on the right path, if they stop feeling afraid, they have gone astray".

Abu-Suleiman al-Darni said: "whenever fear leaves a heart, the heart is ruined".

Ibrahim ibn Sufian said: "if fear inhabits the heart, it burns spots of lust and expels the love of worldly matters".

Ibn al-Mubarak said: "the greatest calamity a man faces is acknowledging defaulting duties and just does not care or grieve".

We have been forgetful, we have been heedless. We are surrounded by perils and concerns; we do not have the brains or the heart to distract us from seductions.

Oh Allah! You are so merciful and forgiving. “And if Allah were to impose blame on the people for what they have earned, He would not leave upon the earth any creature. But He defers them for a specified term. And when their time comes, then indeed Allah has ever been, of His servants, Seeing..” [Fatir 35:45]

Transliteration: Wa Law Yu'uākhidhu Allāhu An-Nāsa Bimā Kasabū Mā Taraka `Alá Žahrihā Min Dābbatin Wa Lakin Yu'uakhkhiruhum 'Ilá 'Ajalin Musammáan Fa'idhā Jā'a 'Ajaluhum Fa'inna Allāha Kāna Bi`ibādihi Başīrāan

O brother! The fear of Allah is apparent in seven things:

The tongue: it stops lying, backbiting and unlawful curiosity, it becomes only busy remembering Allah, reciting the holy Qur'an and learning.

The belly: whatever enters the belly (food) is Halal (from earned not stolen money), and only as much as needed.

The eyesight: never take a look to the Haram (taboo), never desire worldly matters, his looks are always for taking lessons.

The hand: never extend the hand to any Haram, only to what pleases Allah.

The feet: never take a path leading to the wrath of Allah.

The heart: ousted are animosity, hatred and envy, and entered are advice and compassion.

The obedience: to be purely for the sake of Allah and free from hypocrisy.

Nasr ibn Muhammad al-Samarqandi said if a person fulfills the previous, then he is one of the people Allah say about them: “And the Hereafter with your Lord is for the righteous.” [Az-Zukhruf 43:35]

Transliteration: Wa Al-'Ākhiratu `Inda Rabbika Lilmuttaqīna

And “Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure,” [At-Tur 52:17]

Transliteration: 'Inna Al-Muttaqīna Fī Jannātin Wa Na`īmin

My brother in Allah,May Allah make us from the fearful and humble.

Imam Ibn al-Qayyim stated that Fear is very beneficial to the heart on its way to piety, it is obligatory to fear Allah. He said: “So fear them not, but fear Me, if you are [indeed] believers.” [Al-Imran 3:175]

Transliteration: Falā Takhāfūhum Wa Khāfūni 'In Kuntum Mu'uminīna

And “and be afraid of [only] Me.” [Al-Baqarah 2:40]

Transliteration: Wa 'Īyāya Fārhabūni

“Therefore fear not men but fear Me” [Al-Ma'idah 5:44]

Transliteration: Falā Takhshaw An-Nāsa Wa Akhshawnī

He praised His People by saying: “Indeed, they who are apprehensive from fear of their Lord” [Al-Mu’minun 23:57]

Transliteration: 'Inna Al-Ladhīna Hum Min Khashyati Rabbihim Mushfiqūna

Till: “It is those who hasten to good deeds, and they outstrip [others] therein.” [Al-Mu’minun 23:61]

Transliteration: 'Ūlā'ika Yusāri`ūna Fī Al-Khayrāti Wa Hum Lahā Sābiqūna

Brother, May Allah enlighten our hearts by knowing Him.

Abu Hafs said: "fear is the light in your heart which shows you good and evil".

Imam Ibn al-Qayyim said: “if you fear anyone you will run away from him, but if you fear Allah you will turn into Him”.

Dear brother: contemplate what I have presented for you, may the heedless soul awake and relax, may misery leave.

Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was told that his chest would be wheezing like a quern when praying. [Narrated by Abu Dawud and Monzery and declared Authentic by Al-Albani]

Once he was asked: "O Messenger of Allah, your hair has turned gray", he answered: "I was grayed by Hud, Al-Waqi'ah, Al-Mursalat, At-Takwir". [Narrated by Tirmizi]

in another narration: "I was grayed by Hud and its sisters"

O brother!
The most fearful of Allah was Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and his worthy companions.

Abu-Bakr As-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, used to say: "I wish I were this tree, eaten and finished!"

Umar ibn al-Khattab grabbed a piece of hay from earth and said: "I wish I were this piece of hay, I wish I were nothing of significance, I wish I would have been forgotten, I wish that I were not born".

Uthman ibn Affan, the man with two lights, used to cry till his beard got soaking wet whenever he stood by a grave. He said: "if I am standing between paradise and hell not knowing where I will be destined to, I would rather turn into ashes before knowing where to go".

Ali ibn Abi-Talib, father of the two grandsons (Al-Hassan and Al-Hussein), may Allah be pleased with them all, used to cry fearing high expectations and following passions and whims. He said: "high expectations make you forget the Hereafter, and following whims makes you deviate from righteousness".

Abu-Ubaida ibn al-Garrah said: "I wish I were a sheep, slaughtered and eaten by my family".

May Allah guide us to adhere to the guidance of the righteous.

I wonder was your heart trembling when you read these stories! If so, then you are fine. If not, then it needs to be educated. These worthy companions were announced the good news that they are from the dwellers of paradise, nevertheless, they were so fearful of Allah.

Abu Al-Darda', may Allah be pleased with him, used to say: "the most that I fear on the Day of Judgment is to be asked: you have learned, what have you done with what you have learned?"

One night Tamim al-Darrye was reciting Surah Al-Jathiya, when he reached: “Or do those who commit evils think We will make them like those who have believed and done righteous deeds” [Al-Jathiya 45:21]

Transliteration: 'Am Ĥasiba Al-Ladhīna Ajtaraĥū As-Sayyi'āti 'An Naj`alahum Kālladhīna 'Āmanū Wa `Amilū Aş-Şāliĥāti

He repeated it over and over again and cried himself out till the morning.

Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him, cried during his fatal illness, he was asked: "what makes you cry!", he answered: "I am not crying over this life, I am crying because I have a long journey to go, and I lack in provision, I am on the verge of going either to heaven or hell, I do not know where I will be taken".

Abdullah ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: "I would rather shed a tear in fear of Allah than spend a thousand Dinars in his sake".

Imam Ibn al-Qayyim truly said: "God Almighty described people of happiness as being charitable but fearful, and people of misery as being abusive but heedless of the wrath of God, whoever contemplates the conditions of the companions will find them working very hard and fearing very hard. But we combined negligence with feeling safe".

Abu Uthman al-Jizi said: "it a sign of happiness that you obey fearing that you will not be accepted, and it is a sign of misery to disobey hoping to survive".

Dear brother: these are lessons to be contemplated.

The Imam of Imams al-Hassan al-Basri was brought a glass of water to break his fast, when he brought it close to his mouth he cried and said: "I remembered the wish of hell dwellers “Pour upon us some water or from whatever Allah has provided you” [Al-A’raf 7:50]

Transliteration: 'An 'Afīđū `Alaynā Mina Al-Mā'i

“Pour upon us some water or from whatever Allah has provided you” [Al-A’raf 7:50]

Tawus would spend the night restlessly on his bed, leave it and pray the whole night till the morning. He would say: "remembering hell has taken sleep from the eyes of the fearful".

Sufian al-Thawri would wake up at night terrified shouting: "hell fire has kept me busy from sleep and lusts".

When Mus'ar ibn Kadam was dying, Sufian al-Thawri found him terrified, he said: "why are you so terrified? By Allah I'd rather die at the moment", Mus'ar replied: "then you are sure about your deeds, but, by Allah I that I am on top of a mountain not knowing where to land", Sufian wept saying: "you are more fearful to Allah than me".

Some people saw a worshiper crying, they asked him why. He answered: "because of a joy the fearful find in their heart", they asked what it was, he replied: "the magnificence of the call to meeting Allah".

Dear brother: fear Allah as true believers do, His torment is unbearable, His punishment is painful, but brother do not despair of His mercy. Fear Him but mingle your fear with hope, pray for His forgiveness.

Have you not seen how Allah praised Zachariah, peace be upon him, and his house hold: “. Indeed, they used to hasten to good deeds and supplicate Us in hope and fear, and they were to Us humbly submissive.” [Al-Anbiya’ 21:90]

Transliteration: 'Innahum Kānū Yusāri`ūna Fī Al-Khayrāti Wa Yad`ūnanā Raghabāan Wa Rahabāan Wa Kānū Lanā Khāshi`īna

{hope} means they worshipped Him hoping to obtain His mercy and grace.

{fear} means that they feared His torment and punishment if they quit worshipping Him or disobeyed His orders.

Hope urges hearts to march for the beloved land, Allah and the Hereafter, enjoying the march.

Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him said: "the biggest joy verse in Qur'an is the verse in surah Az-Zumar: “Say: "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.” [Az-Zumar 39:53]

Transliteration: Qul Yā `Ibādī Al-Ladhīna 'Asrafū `Alá 'Anfusihim Lā Taqnaţū Min Raĥmati Allāhi 'Inna Allāha Yaghfiru Adh-Dhunūba Jamī`āan 'Innahu Huwa Al-Ghafūru Ar-Raĥīmu

Do you know what hope is! It is to think well of Allah, it is not just mere aspirations without performing good deeds.

Imam ibn Al-Qayyim tells about the truth of hope: "thinking well of Allah is hope. If hope leads to obedience and prevents from disobedience, then it is true hope. But he whose hope leads to nothingness is truly conceited". He added: "God almighty said: “Indeed, those who have believed and those who have emigrated and fought in the cause of Allah – those expect the mercy of Allah. ” [Al-Baqarah 2:218]

Transliteration: 'Inna Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa Al-Ladhīna Hājarū Wa Jāhadū Fī Sabīli Allāhi 'Ūlā'ika Yarjūna Raĥmata Allāhi

Consider how hope made them perform acts of worship! The conceited said: the disobedient of Allah's orders, the unjust, and the transgressor of the limits ordained by Allah, they all hope for the mercy of Allah!!"

Hope is the ladder of the fearful… the shadow of the humble… the safety of the repentant… there is no place for conceited sinners.

Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, entered to a dying young man, he asked him: "how are you?" the young man answered: "by God, O Messenger of Allah, I hope for God's forgiveness and I fear from my sins", the Prophet, peace be upon him said: "whoever combines these two in his heart in such a situation, Allah will give him what he hopes for and will secure him of what he fears", [narrated by Tirmizi]

Dear brother:
think well of Allah, combine it with good deeds. Think well and hope for your fellow Muslims to surpass their sins, and that hope does them well in the day they meet Allah.

Ibn 'Awn said: "I have never seen anyone who hopes the best for monotheists more than Muhammad ibn Sirin".

Ibn al-Mubarak said: "I came to Sufian al-Thawri in the night of 'Arafat, he was kneeling and his eyes were shedding tears abundantly. I asked him about the most miserable people in this congregation, he answered: "it is those who think that Allah will not forgive them".

Jabir ibn Abdullah said: "I heard the Prophet, peace be upon him, three days before he died, say: none of you should die unless you think well of Allah", [narrated by Muslim]

Brother:
may Allah keep us well from any harm and guide our heart to righteousness.

"The heart, on his oath to Allah, is like a bird; its head is love; hope and fear are its two wings; when the head and wings are intact, the bird flies well, whenever the wings are lost the bird is apt to the attack from every predator". [Imam ibn Al-Qayyim]

Dear Muslim brother: there are too many souls loving to aspirations and excuses, their pleasures lie on sloth and cheap hopes. Here are, my brother, guidelines to show you the way to salvation.

Malik ibn Dinar said: "if a man saw in himself the signs of fear and hope, then he grasped the most trustworthy handhold.

The sign of fear is to avoid the prohibitions of Allah.

The sign of hope is to abide by His orders".

Be one of those: “Those whom they invoke seek means of access to their Lord, [striving as to] which of them would be nearest, and they hope for His mercy and fear His punishment. Indeed, the punishment of your Lord is ever feared.” [Al-Isra' 17:57 ]

Moral Crime

Praise be to Allah, lord of the worlds, and peace and blessings be upon the honorable prophets and messengers, upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and companions

The moral crime is the crime of the people of Lot which was a reprehensible crime and a heinous action which upright people would reject and which the Heavenly religions hated as well. The following lines are words of warnings from this crime which will be through discussing its rules, damages, prevention and treatments.

Understanding the crime of the people of Lot

Their crime was that men would be physically sufficient with men, or in other words, men would commit sodomy.

The crimes Proscription and punishments to its perpetrator

Its proscription is the same by the Holy Quran, the Sunnah and the consensus and the punishment of its committer is death weather you have committed this act, or it has been committed by someone to you, whether you are a virgin or not.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and prayers be upon him) stated that “He whom you find committing the crime like that of the people of Lot, therefore kill the committer and he who it has been committed to” [Narrated by Abu Dawood and declared authentic by Imam Ahmad & Al-Albani]

Our prophet’s companions did not differ about the death punishment to the perpetrator of this major sin, but they did however, differ on how the death was to be done. Some of them said “By burning him with fire” and others said “By throwing stones at him” and some of them said “killing him with a sword” and some of them said “he is to be put on the highest building in the village then to be thrown off so his bones can break, then we shall throw stones after him”

The damages it causes

First of all, its damages in Islam:

It has damages on man kinds’ religion because it is one of the major sins in Islam and because it is a threat to the consolidation of mankind, and because it is a pretext to love and attachment to other than Allah and this pretext leads to disbelieving in Allah and because it leads to the love of something that Allah detests and Allah detests who loves it.

And another damage it causes is that the committer can continue in this act until he finds it pleasure-full and this is considered dangerous for the rights and the doctrine of unification.

Second of all, its moral damages which are plenty

1- Lack of modesty, bad manners and scurrility.

2- Heartlessness and the lack of mercy

3- Killing of virility and manhood and diminishes the traits of magnanimity, courage, glory, pride and dignity.

4-It makes one love committing this crime and gives one the nerve of committing it.

5- Lack of will power

6- Humiliation and the downfall of prestige and social status

7-It causes people to lose trust in the perpetrator and for people to see him with treason.

8- Lack of jealousy

Third of all, its mental damages

1-Extreme feelings of fear

2-Continious feelings of sadness and suffering

3-The want to be isolated

4-Mood swings

5-Lack of having a strong personality and the lack of self confidence

6-Increased feelings of paranoia and delusion

7-Feelings of confusion, despair, pessimism, boredom and emotional apathy

Fourth of all, its health damages which are plenty and include:

1-Resistance towards women, the man will be driven away from woman and this can lead to the inability to have intercourse with her.

2-Infertility

3- Syphilis: This disease infects people rapidly and it’s becoming more widespread day by day.

Its symptoms: The appearance of ulcers on the genital areas and sometimes these ulcers are internal and appear on the patients’ kidney, intestines, stomach, pharynx, lungs, and testicles.

As for the effects it leaves, these effects are pretty great such as paralysis, tongue cancer and at times even tuberculosis.

As for its causes, the only factor that was found to cause this disease is forbidden sexual relationships.

4- Herpes: It is a very serious disease that is caused by a virus called HVH (the herpes virus hominies) which is characterized by very red ulcers that grow larger and multiply. This disease is transmitted by sexual intercourse, and its damages don’t stop here, but they spread out to the rest of the body parts and it has very severe complications which can be transmitted to the brain and damage more than 90 percent of the brain.

It also causes mental and neurological diseases. The doctors have concluded that these diseases are much more dangerous than the sores and physical pain it causes, for most of the patients infected with these diseases ages are between 15-30 years old.

5- AIDS: Aids, is disease which has frightened the whole world because of its abundant cases, lack of treatment and because of the air of mystery that it is surrounded by. This disease means auto immune deficiency syndrome or in other words, the downfall of the required immunity one needs which Allah placed in the human body in order for it to fight various diseases .So if a person is to be infected by this disease, his or her immune system shall collapse causing the inability to fight off less threatening diseases.

Experts stated that 95 percent of the people infected with this disease are men who commit sodomy and it has been stated that nine tenths of its victims die within three years from the onset time of this disease

6- The love virus: This disease is much more dangerous than Aids, and like Doctor Moore discovered and stated, Aids is considered a childish and simple disease next to the love virus.

Therefore its discoverer (Doctor Moore) called it the love disease or the love virus.

As for the symptoms of this disease, they usually appear within six months after the patient has been infected with this disease. Afterwards, blisters start appearing in the patients’ body and dead damaged tissues which are usually accompanied by an awful odor and the patients continue bleeding until death. Doctor Moore has also stated that if the human body is infected by this virus, that modern medical science is completely helpless to cure this disease.

Notes:

Now that we have reached the end of our speech about the health damages that sodomy causes, we must warn you about an important issue which is that these diseases’ symptoms don’t always show right away, and just because you have been doing this crime and nothing bad has happened to you, you must not think that Allah is content with this crime, and do not think that because a certain person is doing the same action you are doing and nothing happened to him that Allah is content with his actions.

The ways of treatment and Cure

1- Honest repentance to Allah

2- Devotion to Allah

3- Patience, having self-restraint and resisting your fancies.

4- Filling ones heart with the love of Allah.

5 Have faith that Allah sees your every action.

6- Maintaining your prayers with other Muslims.

7- Fasting.

8- Reading the holy Quran frequently.

9- Remembering and mentioning Allah frequently.

10- Keep your relationship with Allah strong so Allah can protect you.

11- Initiative Marriage.

12- Remembering and mentioning Hoor-al-Ayn.

13- Lowering your gaze.

14- Isolation from the one you beloved.

15- Being away from temptations in general, such as tempting images and movies. Also avoid hearing songs and avoid anything else that reminds you of immorality.

16- Keep yourself busy with something useful and avoid boredom and staying alone.

17- Fight back the satanic whispers of temptation and bad thoughts and don’t get carried away because of them.

18- Strengthen your will power and avoid being despair.

19- Have strong will power, and make the decision to stop doing this act that even animals do not commit.

20- Keep and guard your modesty.

21- Be concerned about and guard your modesty and chastity and not to dress in revealing apparel.

22- Having a moderate amount of beauty, however, we do warn you to try not to exaggerate your appearance.

23- Diminution of humor.

24- Self judgment.

25- Consider the consequences.

26- Accompany the good people and avoid the bad.

27- Visiting sick people, walking in funerals, visiting graves, looking in the faces of dead people and remembering death and what happens after death.

28- Be careful not to give in to threats and make sure to report whomever threatens your grace, but be brave until this person fears you, and if you cannot solve it on your own, therefore seek the guidance of a trusted person such as your father, brother or teacher.

29- Read stories that speak of chastity and repentance.

30- Listen to useful Islamic tapes.

31- State your problem to those who can help you. You must pick good people that can offer their advice so they can help you solve your problem.

32- Prayer and supplication to Almighty Allah.

Finally, these are some of the important indications and factors about this heinous crime.

May peace and prayers be upon Prophet Muhammad and upon His family and companions.

Drugs and the Shariah

Brothers and sisters, the Shariah guides to every good deed and forbids every evil deed.

Hashish

Hashish is a kind of drugs; it is produced from the hemp. Hashish is forbidden in Islam; Imam Az-Zahaby in his book, Al-Kabaer (the grave sins), says: “Hashish, which is made of hemp leaf, is forbidden like the wine; who smokes hashish would be as punished as the one who drinks wine. Hashish is harmer than wine because it ruins both mind and mood and makes the man effeminates and does not care for the chastity of his women. On the other hand, wine is harmer than hashish because it leads to quarrel and dispute; both wine and hashish prevent remembering Allah and performing prayer … It is said that hashish is impure like wine, and this is true … Anyway it is included in what Allah and His messenger had prohibited, and it is included in the prophet’s, peace be upon him, saying: “All intoxicants are forbidden.”

Drug tablets

These tablets are very harmful, because they are made purposely for evil known causes. Moreover they contain great amount of harmful substances including a substance which is said that it is a mix of alcohol, anesthetic and opium. The following are some of the harms of this substance:

1. It is harmful and intoxicant; we have been prohibited, in the Hadeeth that is narrated by Ahmed and Abu Dawud, from having any harmful or intoxicant substance.

2. Experiments had found that having these tablets hurt the brain and, in some cases, cause dementia. Moreover, they develop unnatural secretions cause vomiting, dizziness and accelerate heart beats.

3. Addicting these tablets causes spleen purulence that gets worse by time till the point of no return. The spleen becomes totally damaged and inters the phase of swell and rot besides secreting strange substances weaken the strength gradually to ultimately kill the addict. What would be his excuse when he meets Allah almighty Who prohibited every harmful thing, warned him and forbade taking one’s own life?

4. The addict person ruins his family and dignity by his own hand. Moreover he loses his status in the Muslim community.

5. He becomes an evil model for whoever imitates him. And he would be required to bear the burden like that of one who followed his evil practices without theirs is diminished in any respect.

6. This kind of people opens the gates of evil and invites the others to it. Invitation to evil deeds is not by words only; rather it is by actions also. Whoever addicts drugs and incites the others (by his actions) to do the same, would have the burden like that of who followed his evil deed (without theirs is diminished in any respect) for knowing the truth and rejecting it.

7. Drug tablets’ harm is not confined to who takes it; rather it affects his family, children and companions because of socializing.

8. Experiments had found that these tablets destroy the body, because taking such tablets causes the spread of diseases as we have mentioned earlier.

9. These tablets cause neurological convulsions and paralyses of extremities as a result of blood clotting which causes circularity disorder. These things lead to weakness and heart attacks affects rest and hardens life.

10. These tablets cause blur like the blur that the drunken person feel it, however this kind of blur is more dangerous and chronic; it makes the person see mixed and doubled pictures. Moreover, he may see the colors differently.

11. Having drugs develop fear in the heart of the addict; his fear accompanies him all the time. He fears the evil end and the diseases in addition to other fears prevent him from sleeping and foresight. It lowers his spirit, takes from him the factors of manhood. Therefore he abandons all virtues, gains all vices and become of the worst of (moving) living creatures with Allah; the deaf and the dumb, who understand not.

O believer brothers, fear Allah by not hurting yourselves and protecting it from the punishment as a result of passing prohibited pleasure. Take care of these killer intoxicants and take lessons of their uncountable victims who had gone with their deeds; Allah almighty reproached who made his whims his god; He almighty said: “Have you seen he who has taken as his god his [own] desire, and Allah has sent him astray due to knowledge and has set a seal upon his hearing and his heart and put over his vision a veil? So who will guide him after Allah? Then will you not be reminded?” [Al-Jathiya 45:23]

Transliteration: 'Afara'ayta Mani Attakhadha 'Ilahahu Hawāhu Wa 'Ađallahu Allāhu `Alá `Ilmin Wa Khatama `Alá Sam`ihi Wa Qalbihi Wa Ja`ala `Alá Başarihi Ghishāwatan Faman Yahdīhi Min Ba`di Allāhi 'Afalā Tadhakkarūna

O my God, return those who got strayed from the right path to it again, and protect us all, by your mercy, from the torment of the hellfire. O Allah, endear the Faith to us and beautify it in our hearts, make disbelief, wickedness and disobedience hateful to us, and make us among the rightly guided. Amen.

Dear brother, having drugs is a crime involving moral turpitude and leads to prison.

The Way to Paradise is Very Hard

Dr. `Umar Al-Ashqar

The Final Day – Paradise and Hell In the Light of the Quran and Sunnah
© 1999 IIPH, Riyadh

Paradise is very high, and ascending to lofty places takes a great deal of effort. The way to Paradise is filled with things that go against human wishes and inclinations. This needs strong determination and willpower. In a hadith narrated by Bukhari and Muslim, the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, said: "Hell has been veiled with desires, and Paradise has been veiled with hardships."

The version recorded by Muslim says "surrounded" instead of "veiled." [Jami al-Usul, 10/521, no. 8069]

«حجبت النار بالشهوات ، وحجبت الجنة بالمكاره»،واللفظ فى مسلم«حفت الجنة بالمكاره. وحفت النار بالشهوات»

An-Nisa’i, Tirmizi and Abu Dawud report from Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam said: "When Allah created Paradise, He told Jibril, ‘Go and look at it.’ So he went and looked at it, then he came back and said: ‘By Your Glory, no one will hear of it but he will enter it." So He surrounded it with hardships and said, ‘Go and look at it.’ So he went and looked at it, then came back and said: ‘By Your Glory, I fear that no one will enter it." [Jami al-usul, 10/520, no. 8068. Tirmizi said: It is a hasan sahih hadith]

An-Nawawi commented on the first hadith:

"This is an example of the beautiful, eloquent and concise speech of which the Prophet, sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam, was capable, in which he gives a beautiful analogy. It means that nothing will help you to reach Paradise except going through hardships, and nothing will lead you to Hell but whims and desires. Both are veiled as described, and whoever tears down the veil will reach what was hidden behind it. The veil of Paradise is torn down by going through hardships, and the veil of Hell is torn down by giving in to whims and desires. Hardship includes striving consistently and patiently in worship, restraining one’s anger, forgiving, being patient, giving in charity, being kind to those who mistreat you, resisting physical desires, etc." [Sharh an-Nawawi `ala Muslim, 17/165]

The Gaze, Privacy and Intermingling

Religious Opinions (Fatawa) Regarding the Gaze, Privacy and Intermingling

All praise be to Allah alone, and peace and blessings of Allah be upon His Messenger, his family and companions.

This is a collection of religious opinions (Fatawas) of some senior scholars regarding important issues, which many women need. They revolve around the gaze, the privacy, and intermingling that have overspread many Muslim countries. We ask Allah to protect our young men and women of all evil for He is All-Hearer, Ever Near (to all things by his knowledge) and Responsive.

The ruling on looking at the face of the sister in law

Q: Some advocates of modernization may give permission to look at the face of the sister in law; they infer to some of the evidence. Your eminence, how far is this valid? And what is your response to this claim and how to deter such doings?

A: The wife of the brother is like any other foreign woman. It is not permissible for a man to look at the face of the wife of his brother. The same applies to the wives of his uncles, maternal uncles, and so on. It is not allowed to sit alone with any of these wives as with any other foreign woman to him, nor is it permitted for anyone of these women to unveil her face to her husband's brother, his uncle or his maternal uncle; it is neither allowed that he travels with her alone. This ruling springs from the general rule included in the words of Allah Almighty: {And when you ask (his wives) for anything you want, ask them from behind a screen: that is purer for your hearts and for their hearts.} [Surat Al-Ahzâb 33:53],

Transliteration: waitha saaltumoohunna mataAAan faisaloohunna min warai hijabin thalikum atharu liquloobikum waquloobihinna,

This rule is generally applied to all Muslim wives and not restricted to the wives of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. It also comes from the words of Allah Almighty: {Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.). That is purer for them. Verily, Allah is All-Aware of what they do. (30) And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like palms of hands or one eye or both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer dress like veil, gloves, head-cover, apron, etc.), and to draw their veils all over Juyubihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms, etc.) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husband's sons, their brothers or their brother's sons, or their sister's sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islam), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful} [Surat An-Nûr 24:30-31]

His words, Glorified and Exalted: {O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed.} [Surat Al-Ahzâb 33:59]

And the Hadith of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: "No woman should travel except with a mahram (a man to whom she is forbidden to marry)", [Agreed upon],

«لا تسافر المرأة إلا مع ذي محرم» متفق عليه

and the words of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: "No man is privately alone with a woman; but their third is Satan" [Reported by At-Tirmidhi and authenticated by Al-Albani];

«لا يخلون رجل بامرأة إلا كان ثالثهما الشيطان»رواه الترمذي وصححه الألباني

As unveiling the woman's face to her husband's brother or others and giving them the chance to look at her face evokes the causes of temptation and falling into what Allah has prohibited.

By Allah, these matters are the wise reason behind the obligation of the Hijâb, and the prohibition of looking at, and being alone with, a foreign woman, because the face is where the beauty of a woman is revealed. I ask Allah to guide us.
Sheikh Ibn Bâz

The ruling on looking at women

Q: Is it permissible for a man to look at a foreign woman more than the accidental glance. If it is not permissible, is it allowable for male students to attend a lecture delivered by an unveiled woman, who wears a tight dress, under the pretext of learning?

A: It is not permissible to look at her more than an accidental glance, unless it is necessary, as in the case of rescuing her from drowning, from fire or wreckage or similar cases; or in the case of medical examination or treating a disease, when there is no female physician available.
(The Standing Committee)

Q: What is the ruling of a man looking at a foreign woman and a woman looking at a foreign man while watching TV?

A: This is not permitted, because in most of the shows on TV women are dressing up and revealing some of their unallowable-to-show body parts, while men would be an example of adornment and beauty. And this is often a source of sedition and corruption.
(The Standing Committee)

The ruling on looking at pictures of women in magazines

Q: What is the ruling of looking at pictures of women in newspapers, magazines and others?

A: It is not permitted for a Muslim to look at the faces of women, nor to anything from their unallowable-to-show body parts, neither in magazines nor elsewhere, because that causes affliction. He should lower his gaze from this in pursuant to the general Islamic laws and evidence that forbid doing such an act, and for fear of sedition. He should also lower his gaze from them in the streets and elsewhere. We beseech Allah to guide us.

These TV series are forbidden to be watched

Q: What is the ruling regarding listening to music and songs? What is the ruling in regard to TV series in which women reveal unallowable-to-show body parts?

A: This is prohibited and should be banned, because this prevents (mankind) from the Path of Allah, and causes ailments of the heart as well as the risk of falling into what Allah Glorified and Exalted, has prohibited of Al-Fawâhish (great evil sins, every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse). Allah Almighty has said: {And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allah, the Verses of the Quran) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-fire). (6) And when Our Verses (of the Quran) are recited to such a one, he turns away in pride, as if he heard them not, as if there were deafness in his ear. So announce to him a painful torment.} [Surat Luqmân 31:6-7]

Transliteration: Wamina alnnasi man yashtaree lahwa alhadeethi liyudilla AAan sabeeli Allahi bighayri AAilmin wayattakhithaha huzuwan olaika lahum AAathabun muheenun (6) Waitha tutla AAalayhi ayatuna walla mustakbiran kaan lam yasmaAAha kaanna fee othunayhi waqran fabashshirhu biAAathabin aleemin

These two noble verses indicate that hearing musical instruments and singing is one of the causes of straying and perversion, mocking the verses of Allah and turning away in pride from hearing them.

Allah has threatened whosoever does such acts with degrading punishment and painful torment. The majority of scholars have interpreted 'idle talks' in the verse as singing, musical instruments, and every voice that prevents (mankind) from the Path of Allah. In Sahîh al-Bukhâri, may Allah have mercy on him, he narrated that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has said: "From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful."

«ليكونن من أمتي أقوام ، يستحلون الحر والحرير ، والخمر والمعازف»رواه البخاري

Sexual intercourse is forbidden when in adultery, silk clothes are forbidden for Muslim men, alcoholic drinks are everything that intoxicate the body and mind and are forbidden for men and women alike, musical instruments include any instrument that produces music such as the lute, the drums, the mandolin and the like; the player is the one playing them and the one singing to their music.

It is obligatory on every Muslim male and female to avoid these evils and to beware of them, as well as to avoid watching TV series that include scenes of women revealing unallowable-to-show body parts because they involve great danger as they may lead to the ailment of their heart and the demise of their zeal of whoever watches them; this may lead to falling into what Allah has prohibited, whether the viewer is a man or a woman. I beseech Allah to guide all of us to His satisfaction and hold us safe from the causes of His wrath.

The Reason why it is prohibited to shake hands with foreign women

Q: Why does Islam forbid shaking hands with the women who are being permitted to get married to? Does shaking hands without lust nullify ablution?

A: Islam has forbidden that. It is a source of great sedition to touch a woman foreign to the person. It is legislated to forbid anything that may lead to temptation. Therefore, the legislator ordered Muslims to lower their gaze to ward off this evil. Touching a woman does not nullify ablution, even if there is a lustrous desire; unless there is pre-seminal fluid or spermatic fluid. In the later case, he must take a purifying bath, and he should perform ablution if it is just pre-seminal fluid with washing his male organ and testicles.

The ruling on shaking the hands of the wife of the husband's brother

Q: Is it permissible for the husband's brothers to shake hands with their brother's wife without sitting alone with her but in the presence of sisters and parents, which often happens?

It is not permissible to a husband’s brothers, maternal and paternal uncles or cousins to shake hands with the wives of their brothers or the wives of their maternal or paternal uncles as they are like all other foreign women for them. The brother is not non-marriageable (a mahram) for his brother's wife, likewise, the uncle is not a mahram for his nephew's wife, as well as maternal uncle is not a mahram for the wife of his sister's son. The same applies to cousins; they are not barred to marry their cousins' wives. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has said: "I do not shake hands with women." [Authenticated by Al-Albani]

«إني لا أصافح النساء» صححه الألباني

Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said: "by Allah, the hand of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has never touched the hand of a woman, and when he accepted their pledge, he accepted it verbally." [Reported by Al-Bukhari]

«والله ما مست يده يد امرأة قط في المبايعة ، وما بايعهن إلا بقوله» رواه البخاري

This is because shaking hands with foreign women might be a means of temptation, just like looking at them or even worse. However, as for non-marriageable women, such as a sister, parental or maternal aunts, and the son's wife or the father's wife there is no sin in shaking hands with them. May Allah help us to prosper.

The ruling on shaking hands with foreign women from behind a screen

Q: Is it permissible to shake hands with a foreign woman if she puts a screen (gloves and the like) on her hands with giving us evidence to that, may Allah reward you? Is the rule applied to old women the same as that applied to younger ones?

A: It is not permissible to shake hands with foreign women who are not mahram, either directly or with a screen, because of the temptation arising out of that. Allah Almighty has said: {And come not near to the unlawful sexual intercourse. Verily, it is a Fahishah [i.e. anything that transgresses its limits (a great sin)], and an evil way (that leads one to Hell unless Allah forgives him).} [Surat Al-Isrâ’ 17:32]

Transliteration: Wala taqraboo alzzina innahu kana fahishatan wasaa sabeelan

This verse indicates that we must leave everything leading to adultery, whether it is the complete fulfilled intercourse, which is the greatest, or otherwise. There is no doubt that touching the hand of a foreign woman may provoke desire. In addition there are many Hadiths that threaten those who shake hands with a marriageable woman, making no difference between the young and the old, because as it is said each type of women has its appeal. Meanwhile it is difficult to differentiate between young and old women as someone may see a woman as an old maid, while another may consider her as a young lass.
Sheikh Ibn 'Uthaymîn

It is permissible for a man to kiss his daughter

Q: Is it permissible for a man to kiss his daughter when she has grown up over the age of puberty, whether married or unmarried, and whether the kissing is on the cheek or mouth, or the like? And if she kisses him on the same places, what is the ruling?

A: There is no sin with a man kissing his daughter, old or little, provided that it is done without lust. However, this should be on her cheek in case she is a young woman, as it was proven that Abu Bakr As-Siddîq, may Allah be pleased with him, had kissed his daughter Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, on her cheek.

Because kissing on the mouth may lead to moving sexual desire; so to leave it is better and safer. Likewise, a girl may kiss her father on his nose or head, without lust. But kissing with lust is forbidden for everyone in order to prevent sedition and to avoid al-Fahishah (illegal sexual intercourse).

Sitting Alone with a foreign woman is prohibited

Q. Some people are tolerant in speaking with foreign women; for example, a man may come to the house of his friend and does not find him. The wife speaks with this man, her husband’s friend, opens the sitting room for him and makes coffee and tea for him, is this permissible? Taking into consideration that there is nobody in the house, only the wife?

A: A woman should not allow a foreign man into the house of her husband in his absence, even if he is the friend of her husband, and even if he is honest and reliable. This constitutes privacy with a foreign woman, which is mentioned in the Hadith: "No man is privately alone with a woman; but their third is Satan." [Reported by At-Tirmidhi and authenticated by Al-Albani];

«لا يخلون رجل بامرأة إلا كان ثالثهما الشيطان»رواه الترمذي وصححه الألباني

It is also forbidden for a man to ask the wife of his friend to let him in the house and to entertain him even if he is confident of his honesty and religion for fear that Satan should whisper to him and interfere between them. The husband should warn his wife not to allow any foreign men into the house even if they are his relatives, because the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has said: "Beware of entering upon the ladies." A man said: "O Allah's Apostle! What about Al-Hamu (the in-laws of the wife (the brothers of her husband or his nephews etc.))?" The Prophet replied: The in-laws of the wife are death itself". [Agreed upon]

«إياكم والدخول على النساء. فقال رجل من الأنصار: يا رسول الله، أفرأيت الحمو ؟ قال: الحمو الموت» متفق عليه

If the brother in-law, who is considered the husband's brother, or his relative, are not allowed to enter so other persons would be better prevented.
Sheikh Ibn Jibrîn

The ruling regarding sexual relations before marriage

Q: What is the ruling regarding intimate relation before marriage?

A: The inquirer says: before marriage, if he meant before marriage consummation and after the marriage contract has been concluded there is no sin on that, because by contract the woman has become his wife though the marriage ceremony has not yet been done. But if the inquirer means before concluding the marriage contract, during the betrothal period, or even before that, it is forbidden and is not permissible for a man to be intimate with a woman who is a stranger to him, whether by words, looks or by being privately alone with her, except with the presence of a mahram. It has been proven that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has said: "No man is to be privately alone with a woman except with the presence of a mahram, and no woman should travel except with a mahram." [Reported by Muslim]

«لا يخلون رجل بامرأة إلا ومعها ذو محرم ،ولا تسافر المرأة إلا مع ذي محرم»رواه مسلم

The conclusion is that if this intimate relationship is after concluding the marriage contract there is no sin in that, and if that it is before the contract and after the engagement and acceptance, it is forbidden; as the man in this case is forbidden for the woman, because she is a stranger to him, until they conclude the marriage contract.

No woman should travel except with a mahram

Q: What is the ruling on bringing a maidservant without a mahram? Is it forbidden that the maidservant should come from her own country without a mahram or to live in the house in which she serves alone without a mahram?

A: Women should not travel without a mahram, whether servants or others because the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has said: "No woman should travel except with a mahram." [Agreed upon]

«لا تسافر المرأة إلا مع ذي محرم»متفق عليه

As for her presence in the house, it does not necessitate the existence of a mahram. However, no man foreign to her, should be alone with her because the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has said: "No man should sit alone with a woman except with a mahram," [Agreed upon],

«لا يخلون رجل بامرأة إلا ومعها ذو محرم»متفق عليه

And he, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has also said: "No man is privately alone with a woman; but their third is Satan." [Narrated by Imam Ahmad, with authentic chain of transmissions attributed to Ibn 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him.]

«لا يخلون أحدكم بامرأة فإن الشيطان ثالثهما» رواه الإمام أحمد

The ruling on a woman's stay in a country other than hers without a mahram

Q: My question is about a woman's work and residence without a mahram in other than her own country. Taking into consideration that I am currently working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in a place, where all employees are women. I live in the work dormitory, where all the residents are women and thanks Allah there are no intermingling or anything that causes the wrath of Allah Glorified and Exalted, whether at work or in the living quarters. I have tried to bring my brother to be my legitimate mahram, but I was not successful. So, what is the ruling regarding my current situation and my staying here without a mahram, taking into consideration that I have firstly asked a lot for the guidance of Allah Glorified and Exalted before coming here, and I have felt that Allah has facilitated many things for me. Secondly: the situation in my country, where intermingling and poor ethics in workplaces do not encourage a devout Muslim to continue in it. In the light of what I have mentioned to you, what is your opinion?

A: We ask Allah to give us and you prosperity. There is nothing wrong in what you have done, as there is no harm or sin in the residence of a woman in a country without a mahram, especially if she works with other women in a place where no men are allowed, or sleep in a dormitory for women. There is no sin in all that. What is forbidden is to travel alone. So you should not travel except with a mahram, and you should not come to the Kingdom except with a mahram. If you have come from your country without a mahram you have to repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness, and not to return to doing this again. If you want to travel then you have to find a mahram. Or you have to be patient till you find one. As it is narrated that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has said: "No woman should travel except with a mahram." [Agreed upon]

«لا تسافر المرأة إلا مع ذي محرم»متفق عليه

If it is possible to find a mahram from among your relatives, or a husband, then your husband will be your mahram. The matter is in the hands of Allah. You have to do your best to find a mahram when you travel. As for your staying and working among women, it is permitted and there is no sin in that. All praise be to Allah.

There is no doubt that a woman's travel alone without a mahram is risky and dangerous and it has sedition within it; therefore I advise our Muslim sisters to beware of that, and to only travel in the accompany of a mahram. I also advise them to be cautious of intermingling and working with men, or of being alone with them. All of this must be restricted in hospitals and in other workplaces. My advice to all is that they should not bring women for work except with a mahram, and that women should not travel except with a mahram, and to avoid working with men. A woman should not be alone with men who are strangers to her, as this would be a way to sedition. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has prevented and forbidden that; he has said: "No man is privately alone with a woman; but their third is Satan." [Reported by At-Tirmidhi and authenticated by Al-Albani];

«لا يخلون رجل بامرأة إلا كان ثالثهما الشيطان»رواه الترمذي وصححه الألباني

The conclusion is that a woman and her guardians should ensure the safety of their honour and be away from the causes of sedition. As for work, there is no sin if a woman works among other women in permissible occupations that do not endanger her religion and does not cause temptation for men.

The ruling on entering markets that have mixed male and female shoppers

Q. Is it permissible for a Muslim male to enter a market while he knows that in the market there are women who are dressed bur appear to be naked as well as intermingling unacceptable to Allah Glorified and Exalted?

A: Such a market should only be entered by those who are enjoining Al-Ma'rûf (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism and all that Islâm orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islâm has forbidden), or for dire needs with lowering the gaze and being cautious against the causes of sedition for the safety of honour and religion, and keeping away from the ways of evil. However, market inspectors and any authorized persons should enter such markets to forbid what is happening there of the evil acts. Allah Almighty has said: {The believers, men and women, are Auliya' (helpers, supporters, friends, protectors) of one another, they enjoin (on the people) Al-Ma'ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do), and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar (i.e. polytheism and disbelief of all kinds, and all that Islam has forbidden);} [Surat At-Taubah 9:71]

Transliteration: Waalmuminoona waalmuminatu baAAduhum awliyao baAAdin yamuroona bialmaAAroofi wayanhawna AAani almunkari

The Almighty has also said: {Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining Al-Ma'ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful.} [Surat Aal-i-Imraan 3:104]. The verses in this meaning are abundant.

Transliteration: Waltakun minkum ommatun yadAAoona ila alkhayri wayamuroona bialmaAAroofi wayanhawna AAani almunkari waolaika humu almuflihoona

The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has also said: "If people see evil and do not try to change it, they would be soon overtaken by the punishment of Allah." [Reported by Ahmad and some of the Hadith scholars, with authentic chain of transmission attributed to Abu Bakr As-Siddîq, may Allah be pleased with him]

«إن الناس إذا رأوا المنكر ولم يغيروه أوشك أن يعمهم الله بعقاب منه» رواه الإمام احمد

In another Hadith the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has said: "He who amongst you sees something abominable should modify it with the help of his hand; and if he has not strength enough to do it, then he should do it with his tongue, and if he has not strength enough to do it, (even) then he should (abhor it) from his heart, and that is the least of faith." [Reported by Imam Muslim in his Sahîh]

The Hadiths in this sense are many. I beseech Allah to guide us.
Sheikh Ibn Bâz

The ruling on a woman working in an intermingling workplace

Q. Is it permissible for a woman to work in a mixed environment with men, taking into consideration that there are other women in the same workplace?

A: I think that it is not permissible to mix between men and women in government and private sector departments, or in government or private schools. Intermingling between them in such workplaces causes many evils, the least of which is the disappearance of shyness and veneration. If men and women intermingle, men will not have the veneration required from women towards them neither women will become shy of men. This (I mean intermingling between men and women) is in contradiction to what Islamic law requires, and is contrary to the behavior of the ancestors. Do you not know that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has assigned a special place for women when they went out for the Eid prayer, where they do not intermingle with men! It is mentioned in the authentic Hadith that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, after having delivered his sermon to the men, has come down and went to the women and preached and reminded them.

This indicates that they did not hear the Prophet's sermon, or if they heard they did not comprehend what they had heard. Do you not know that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has said: "The best rows for men are the first rows, and the worst ones are the last ones, and the best rows for women are the last ones and the worst ones for them are the first ones." [Reported by Muslim]

«خير صفوف الرجال أولها، وشرها آخرها . وخير صفوف النساء آخرها، وشرها أولها» رواه مسلم

And this is only because of their closeness to the rows of men, so the first rows of women are the worst, and vice versa, the farthest the rows of women from those of men the best. If that is in common acts of worship, then what about intermingling in non-acts of worship activities? It is well known that the human being in the case of performing acts of worship is as far as they could be from the sexual instinct, then how about if intermingling is without performing acts of worship?

“Satan circulates in the body of Adam's offspring as his blood circulates in it” [Reported by Al-Bukhari],

«إن الشيطان يجري من ابن آدم مجرى الدم» رواه البخاري

So it is not unlikely that there might occur a great sedition and evil from this intermingling. I call upon our brothers to keep away from intermingling, and let them know that it is the most harmful thing that would happen to men. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has said: "After me I have not left any affliction more harmful to men than women." [Agreed upon]

«ما تركت بعدي فتنة أضر على الرجال من النساء» متفق عليه

All praise be to Allah, because we Muslims have a unique feature, which distinguishes us from others. We must thank Allah Almighty, in particular, that He has bestowed this feature upon us. We have to know that we pursue the law of Allah the All-Wise, Who knows what is reforming His servants and lands. We should know that if people deviate from the path of Allah Glorified and Exalted and His laws, then they are astray and their conditions are turning to corruption. This is why we hear that other countries whose women intermingle with men are trying as hard as they can to get rid of this habit, but how could they receive (Faith and the acceptance of their repentance by Allâh) from a place so far off (i.e. to return to the worldly life again). We ask Allah Almighty to protect our country and the Muslim world from all evils and from the harms of sedition.
Sheikh Ibn Bâz
